How your EPF grows

Each month 11% of your salary and 13% from your employer (12% above RM5,000) go into EPF. Once a year KWSP pays a dividend on your balance. Recent dividends for conventional savings have been between 5% and 6.3% a year, but they change every year and are not guaranteed, so try a few rates.

The three accounts

Since May 2024, each new contribution is split three ways: 75% to Akaun Persaraan, which you can only take out at 55, 15% to Akaun Sejahtera for housing, education and health, and 10% to Akaun Fleksibel, which you can withdraw any time. Money already in your account before the change stays where it was.

Reading the result

The balance is in future ringgit. RM1 million in 25 years will buy much less than RM1 million today. A simple rule of thumb is to divide the result by about 2 for every 24 years ahead if you expect 3% inflation.
