How ASB financing works

With ASB financing the bank buys ASB units for you up front, up to RM200,000. You repay the bank monthly like a normal loan, and the units earn the yearly ASB payout from the first year. If the payout is higher than your financing rate, you come out ahead.

The risk

ASB payouts are set each year by PNB and are not guaranteed. Recent payouts including bonus have been between about 4.75 and 5.75 sen per unit. If the payout drops below your financing rate for several years, the loan costs more than it earns. Many banks also require MRTT insurance, which adds to the cost.

Who can apply

ASB is open to Bumiputera Malaysians. The bank checks your debt service ratio as for any other loan.
